The Choral Society of Middle Georgia is a community organization of singer-musicians from the central Georgia area. Originally founded as the Macon Civic Chorale, the Choral Society has provided inspiring choral concerts since 1975. With three major concerts each year, the choir explores a wide range of choral styles but is dedicated to performing choral/orchestral works.
In the fall of 2014, Stanley L. Roberts became the conductor and artistic director. Under his direction, the Choral Society has gained an even greater level of musical success with a marked increase in membership, community interest, and concert attendance. The Choral Society performances are a collaboration with the Mercer University Choir and other community musicians. Recent concerts under his direction have featured the major works Requiem (Duruflé), Messiah (Handel), Sunrise Mass (Gjeilo) and Requiem for the Living (Forrest), along with a program that commemorated the 150th anniversary of the ending of the American Civil War titled The Blue and the Gray…Music of the Civil War Soldier.
Rehearsals are held August-May on Monday evenings (7:00-9:00). The choir rehearses on the campus of Mercer University in the choral rehearsal room in the McCorkle Music Building. Interviews & auditions are held in mid-August.
